David Koma SS13

David Koma SS13 – LFW

An homage to sports at David Koma’s spring/summer 2013 show, where conventional tennis apparel was stripped bare, twisted, turned and brought back to its roots – resulting in a collection of simple, crisp and clean dresses, inspired by the colours of the 1960s and the silhouettes of the 1920s.

The designer followed in the footsteps of Teddy Tinling, sticking to Tinling’s flattering, figure-tight cuts and A-line skirts, while providing the dresses with a highly Koma-like edge by strategically cutting out geometric pieces of fabric and adding a splash of colour – grassy greens and cobalt blues popped out on a black canvas, while fiery amber stood out boldly on crispy white.

Excitingly, upon closer inspection of the models’ shoes the ultimate reference to the ball game was revealed – the shoes cleverly featured a tennis racket handle grip for heels! And didn’t those prints look like the model had just walked into a freshly painted tennis net?
